The GDI Token 2.0

The Global Design Initiative (GDI) Token symbolises the next chapter of the collaborative journey for GDI. It is inspired by the robust and dynamic design of cargo containers. This token, designed as a travelling box, will journey worldwide and reside with each host partner institution to commemorate the hosting year, heralding the start of the next GDI project. Inside the box are numerous slots designed to hold a plate representing that year's host institution. The plates are crafted with any material, form, or design, reflecting the creativity and unique positioning of the host institution.

This year, the inaugural plate is produced by the Singapore team, marking the dawn of GDI 2.0—a new era of Global Design Initiative. The Singapore plate symbolizes our commitment to innovation, cultural exchange, and the shared aspirations of a new generation of designers.

In 2025, the token will be passed to the KISD team in Cologne, Germany. As the GDI Token travels, it will collect these unique plates, each telling a story of creativity, learning, and global unity in design.

Dr. Venka Purushotaman, Deputy President and Provost of LASALLE, passes the GDI 2.0 Token to Professor Philipp Heidkamp of KISD.
